On Sunday, February 1st, at precisely 1 p.m. on Rehoboth Beach, with a Coast Guard boat firing water into the air, Gov. Jack Markell and Miss Delaware Galen Giaccone led 2,725 Bears into the 40° water for the 2009 Lewes Polar Bear Plunge to benefit the Special Olympics Delaware.

The event, sponsored by Wawa and Comcast, went off without a hitch for the 18th consecutive year and raised $490,000.
